With more research addressing the health benefits of yoga, it has become more commonplace to find athletes incorporate the practice of yoga into their own training regimens. The attraction of yoga can be attributed to its universality; athletes from all types of sports are able to find within yoga practice concepts that pertain to their specific skill sets and improve upon them.
Yoga can be utilized for a myriad of purposes and at all times in the athlete’s workout or day. Danielle’s first experience teaching yoga to athletes was at Mirror Image Athletics where she was coached in CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting. Danielle decided to specialize in yoga for athletes when she was met with positive feedback from her CrossFit gymates about her yoga sessions, and how they were were helping them with their recovery from post-high intensity workouts as well as with range of motion. To help her specialized practice with athletes grow, Danielle studied under Sage Rountree, America’s leading expert on yoga for athletes at Carrboro Yoga Company in Carrboro, North Carolina. Since her studies, Danielle has brought back an enhanced approach in her yoga practice that specifies in balance, conditioning, and focus. She advocates that “yoga for athletes” does not necessarily mean it’s going to be athletic and accommodates yoga to the structure of any sport and specific focus. Danielle looks forward to offering this practice to local athletes in her hometown and hopes it benefits athletes’ in their own practice of yoga as a tool for their sport.
